About Sahas & Co

Sahas & Co is the working name of Subrata Saha, based in Kolkata, West Bengal.

What this is

A one-person studio. That means you talk to the person who writes the code, there is no account manager in between, and nothing gets quietly passed to a junior. It also means I take on a small number of projects at a time and say no to the rest.

What I build

Websites, web apps and progressive web apps, plus the technical SEO work that makes them findable. I prefer plain, fast, boring technology: static HTML, a bit of JavaScript, no framework unless the project genuinely earns one. Sites built this way load quickly on a 3G connection in a crowded street, which is the real test in India.

How I got here

Years of building and maintaining sites for other people's businesses, and a stubborn habit of making tools for problems that annoy me. Festive Kolkata started because pandal-hopping with an out-of-date newspaper list and a dying phone battery is a miserable way to spend Ashtami.

Principles

• Fixed price, agreed first. Hourly billing rewards slowness. I would rather be quick.
• You own it. Domain, hosting, repository, analytics — all registered in your name, handed over at the end.
• No lock-in. If you want to move the work elsewhere next year, everything you need comes with it.
• Say what is actually true. If something will not work, or is not worth paying for, I will tell you before you pay for it.

Where

Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Work happens over email and calls, with clients in India and abroad. If you are in the city, coffee is also fine.
